Braden "Brady" Gregor of Inglemoor High School - 5/4/11

Braden "Brady" Gregor showed a great passion in life for both athletics and academics very early on in life that has continued to the present. His education has been filled with challenging courses of mainly AP and IB classes in preparation for college where Brady will pursue an engineering degree. He has also been a member of National Honor Society for many years.

On the basketball court Braden has excelled as well. He played for the Inglemoor High School varsity boys basketball team from his sophomore through senior years. He was named as an All King-Co honorable mention player his junior and senior years as a 6'8" power forward and selected for the All King-Co all-star games.

Along with giving time and effort in school and on the basketball court, Brady has poured effort and attention to community service by volunteering at local food banks, coaching young athletes at Homecourt (a non-profit basketball program), and helping his high school coach put on summer basketball camps for boys in grades 6-9.

Kaela Nurmi of Hazen High School - 4/27/11

Kaela has worked hard through all four years of high school, balancing her significant requirements as an athlete with her primary priority… school. Her discipline has paid off both in Kaela's scholastic achievement and in her swimming. In addition to school and swim, Kaela has taken a leadership role in her high school, participating in as many activities as possible.

As a swimmer for Hazen High School, Kaela lettered, participated in the WIAA State Championships and was a Scholar Athlete all four years of high school. She was on the 2nd all-league team in her first two years and on the Seamount League 1st team her last two years in high school. In her Junior Year, she received the Coach's award and as a Senior, Kaela was MVP for her team. She was also one of 6 captains for this team of 70 and received recognition at the District Championships as a Distinguished Senior Academic Athlete for her high GPA.

Dallas Gosselin of Bothell High School - 4/20/11

Dallas Gosselin is a great example of a Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete. Dallas has won several awards throughout is high school career in both football and track and field. In football alone, he is be awarded the following: two time defensive lineman of the year, defensive MVP for the Crown Division, participate in the East-West All Star game, recipient for the Cougar Award, an award given by his coaches. Dallas was also chosen for the All-Area Defensive team by the Seattle Times. This spring Dallas was unable to participate in track because of a stress fracture in his back. His still wanted to be part of the team and offered his time to coach his peers.

Nick Ailment of Kentridge High School – 4/13/11

Congratulations to Nick Ailment of Kentridge High School for being named this week’s scholar athlete. Nick has an impressive wrestling record of 29-8. His successful record also includes a league championship in 2010, 8th in State for 2009, and he is currently ranked 5th in the State for his weight class. Nick’s coach, Todd Lantz, selected Nick as a team captain. Coach Lantz quotes, “I selected Nick to be a captain because he is a great athlete and because of his work ethic, determination, leadership and ability to motivate others. Nick is an outstanding wrestler and student. I have enjoyed the privilege of not only coaching, but learning form this young man.”

Nick’s extracurricular activities outside of Wrestling include, ASB Vice President, National Honor Society, and Link Crew.

Sariha McIntrye of Shorewood High School - 4/6/11

Sariha has been an invaluable asset to North Atlantic Regional High School, both as an athlete on the dive team and as a student maintaining a 3.92 GPA. She has dove for the past four years, and was selected as team captain for her junior and senior years. Further, Sariha was chosen as team MVP her senior year, showing great dedication to her team by leading and encouraging them at all times, while also being willing to take responsibility when it is needed.

Out of the pool, Sariha participates in the local 4-H club, having been a member for the past four years, taking on more leadership and responsibility with each year of involvement. She has served as club historian, a council member, and this past year was elected Vice President of the D.O.G.S. 4-H club. Sariha is commended for keeping the club organized and running smoothly, showing great leadership by teaching younger students how to train and show their dogs, while working together to achieve a greater goal.

Daniel Perrine of Chief Sealth International High School - 3/30/11

Since freshman year, Daniel has run cross country, becoming more and more committed with each year of competitive action. Beginning as a freshman, Daniel was quickly assuming much higher roles than his age would suggest. Coming into a team with few upperclassmen, he was challenged quickly in learning his own way to success, and began to discover his ability as a runner. He has greatly improved his speed on the track, and has qualified for districts in the Metro-KingCo championships.

He is described as running “with guts and determination” by his coaches, and his accomplishments extend past the field. He is a full diploma International Baccalaureate student, with intentions of working with the FBI in his future. Beyond this, he is a very respectful and encouraging leader to his peers and teammates, leading with positive example of an exceptional student.

Julia Harris of Enumclaw High School - 3/23/11

Julia is recognized as an outstanding student athlete for her active participation and successes in the classroom and on the track field. She has competed in track and cross country for all of her high school experience, and was voted as team captain in both sports. A senior at Enumclaw High School, Julia began running in her freshman year, a member of a large fifty person team. Through hard work and practice, she began to gain recognition from her teammates and coaches. She has since competed on the varsity level, running with her team in back to back state competitions. She has been awarded as an SPSL Second Team member for two years as well.

In the classroom, Julia has maintained a 3.985 cumulative GPA while being active in her community and other activities. Her school work has included running start and AP courses, and she has been awarded the Washington State Overall Scholastics award. Julia has been involved in piano and music, which she has studied for the past twelve years. She uses her experience in playing piano to perform as community service for nursing homes, at Relay for Life events, and at church functions.

Colin Wilkins of Shorewood High School - 3/16/11

Colin Wilkins has shown outstanding leadership on and off the playing field. His extracurricular activities have included mission trips, DECA, and on the Soccer pitch. Faith, being an integral part of his life, has afforded him the opportunity to travel to Mexico on mission trips on two occasions, as well as his involvement as a recreation leader for his church’s vacation bible school each summer. He is also involved in Young Life, as well as being a member of the church’s youth choir and worship team. He has competed in DECA competitions, and has traveled to their State and National competitions, as well as acting as the Promotion Manager for his school’s on campus student store.

As a student athlete, Colin has impressed his class with outstanding performance on the soccer field and being voted most athletic by his senior class. Having played soccer since he was six, the sport has always been a passion for Colin. At 12, Colin began playing on a select team as co-captain. His commitment to his team has gone so far as to place his team before a scholarship interview, and he has been team captain, as well as voted MVP his junior year. He is currently preparing for his final season that he and his teammates are very eager to begin.

Sophie Judd of Edmonds Woodway High School - 3/9/11

Sophie has been a student athlete since first grade, participating in competitive gymnastics and soccer. She put in 16 hours per week into gymnastics until age 10, when she decided to pursue soccer full time, all the while maintaining a high GPA. Currently, Sophie is captain of the Northwest National GU18 premier team, and has played four years of varsity soccer at Edmonds-Woodway High School. She has been named 1st team All Wesco for the past two years and 1st team all area this past year. For her team in particular, she has been awarded the Most Valuable Player award for the past three years, and she has committed to play collegiate soccer at Westmont College in Santa Barbara.

Off the field, Sophie has maintained a 3.8 GPA while taking rigorous IB, AP, and Running Start classes. She has been involved in Children’s Church at Westgate Chapel for the last five years, leading a group of 50 children each Sunday. During the summer, she volunteers as a camp counselor for the church youth as well. She serves in an annual Thanksgiving Outreach which feeds 1200 needy community members in Edmonds during the holidays. Sophie has also been involved in mission trips to Uruguay, California, Germany, and Luxembourg.

Cara Strodel of Cedarcrest High School - 3/2/11

Cara is nominated for the Scholar Athlete of the Week award for her accomplishments in her high school career, both within and outside of the classroom. In her academic career, Cara has maintained an outstanding GPA, which has placed her ranked 2nd in her graduating class, and resulting in her being announced the graduating students’ Salutatorian. Cara is also a role model in her community, by volunteering at the Riverview School District on a regular basis as a cross country and track and field coach.

As an athlete, Cara has been an integral member of the cross-country and track and field programs at Cedarcrest High School. She has participated in cross country each year for her school, making it to the state competition and not leaving without a podium visit. She was selected as a member of the Cascade Conference All-League all four years, was All-State for three of those years, and was the Cascade Conference League champion twice.

Kyle has been an avid baseball player since his middle school years. In 8th grade, he was awarded the Male Athlete of the Year award, which commemorates athletes that have an impact on the field and in the classroom. Kyle entered high school carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA, where he trained to be a member of the varsity baseball team at Enumclaw High.

Kyle is noted to be an outstanding, respectable student and athlete, and has shown so in his accomplishments on the team and in the community. He has seen his team to the state baseball championship at Safeco field, and took his team to finish in the top three. He regularly mentors middle school baseball players, wanting to help them to cultivate the skill that has brought him so much success.

Jennifer Liedes of Olympia High School - 2/16/11

This week’s winner, Jennifer Liedes, comes from Olympia High School, where she plays volleyball and golf while maintaining excellence in the classroom. Jennifer has been a dedicated student athlete for her entire high school career. She is always giving 100% towards her personal success as well as those of her teammates.

Jennifer has maintained a near perfect 3.95 GPA while staying active in her sports as well as aiding her school’s physical therapist on a daily basis. Her schedule is such that she must be very organized in order to accomplish everything successfully, and she does so with flying colors. As captain, she led her volleyball team to a district championship, followed by a sixth place finish at state.

Brian McAfee of Bothell High School - 2/9/11

Since an early age, Brian McAfee has had a passion for baseball. From studying the movements of Mariners greats like Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez, Brian has cultivated a great skill for the game. During his career, Brian has been awarded the All KingCo Honorable mention as pitcher, and during his junior year he was named 1st team all KingCo as a 3rd baseman. Further, he was elected by teammates as captain his junior year, an honor usually held for seniors. He has been recruited by various colleges and universities, and has decided to accept an offer at Cornell University, where he will study Chemical Engineering.

In that same spirit of consistency and performance, Brian tackles other aspects of his life with pride and consistency. He has remained a positive role model in school, maintaining a 3.93 grade point average while being committed to the athletic and academic code of conduct. To commend him for his outstanding achievements in the classroom and community, Brian was elected “Cougar of the Month” by administrators as an effective and positive role model.

Brooke Beltico of Kingston High School - 2/2/11

Brooke has been a student athlete, participating in furthering her education and cheerleading, for the past three years. Brooke is known for her strong personality and was chosen as a team captain for her cheer squad, a team that she has been a member of for the past three years. Brooke was nominated for this award based on her energy, dedication, and leadership, in the classroom and beyond.

Brooke is a decorated award winner. She has won scholastic awards for her outstanding GPA and various cheerleading awards for her noteworthy performance on the squad. “Brooke is dependable, responsible, creative and most of all indispensable” says her coach and family friend Heidi Uher. Her strong leadership and ability to stand out while staying active in and out of the classroom is what makes Brooke a Scholar Athlete.

Wes Concepcion of Kentridge High School - 1/26/11

Wes is known for his leadership on and off the field. He is said to have a “can do” attitude when it comes to school work, one that his classmates are quick to emulate. He desires to pursue knowledge, above simply getting through a class. He is actively involved in his leadership class as well as many student activities, and “his willingness to serve others is a key part of his personality and help makes Kentridge High School a better place” says Athletic Director Eric Anderson.

On the athletic side Wes changes nothing, continuing to be the leadership figure he is known for in the classroom. Most notably on the football field, Wes was named an All-League Player for two years, and was awarded the SPSL Special Teams Player of the Year his senior year. In other sports, Wes is a multiyear letter award in swimming.

Daniel James Wunder Jr of Auburn High School - 1/19/11

Daniel, a senior at Auburn High School, has stood out by his outstanding efforts on the court, in the classroom, and in his community. He has played basketball since he was 4, and has been a varsity player for his junior and senior years, as well as being a team leader and top defender. Daniel has also been assistant coach for the Issaquah Select basketball team, and was a member of the WIAA State 2009 Basketball Team.

In the classroom, Daniel has maintained a grade point average above a 3.0, and has been highly involved in various extracurricular activities outside of basketball. He has been a member of Troy Crew, a club that helps new students in their initial time at Auburn, as a team leader and representative to the incoming class.

Dakota is an outstanding student athlete at Union High School by being engaged in both Cheerleading and upper level gymnastics. Dakota has excelled at gymnastics, participating in competitive gymnastics for the greater part of the last 13 years. Dakota made varsity cheer her freshman year, and has been an All American Nominee for cheer for her entire high school career.

Apart from cheer and gymnastics, Dakota has maintained a 3.56 GPA and has been actively involved in her U-Crew Leadership program through her school, and was a U-Crew executive her senior year. She has been a volunteer gymnastics coach at the Vancouver Elite Gymnastics Academy, helping other young people learn to compete at a higher level, as Dakota has.

Being highly involved in her school’s swim and water polo teams, Alison Ballard has exemplified the role of a student athlete at Enumclaw High School. Alison has been involved in water polo for all of high school, and has been among the few selected to play with Puget Sound Polo in California at the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics. Further, she was voted captain of the varsity swim team her senior year, and won the 110% for her ability to continue to strive in and out of the pool.

Alison has also maintained above a 3.5 GPA, all while taking community college courses and a full volunteering schedule. She serves food to families at the Ronald McDonald House, and is a volunteer attendant at a local senior living facility. We are proud to award Alison the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete Award for her successes in both her academic and athletic life.

Tanner Page of Bellevue Christian High School - 12/29/10

When the trampoline became an Olympic sport in 2000, Tanner began competing the following year at the age of 9 and has never looked back. With hard work and determination he made it all the way to the US Jr. National Team in 2008, the US World Age Group in Russia in 2009, and recently returned from the 2010 World Age Group competitions in France.

He has not only shown great discipline in his sport, but also in his studies by maintaining a 3.71 grade point average. Tanner is an exemplary role model to the younger athletes he mentors at his gym and at the USAG sponsored summer camp he volunteers at. He is now competing at the Sr. Elite Level and hopes to qualify for the Olympic Trials in 2012.

Excelling in her AP classes, Emily enjoys college-level Spanish and writing, as well as math and science. She has served her community as a member of the Key club in which was previously the treasurer and is currently the historian. One of her favorite service projects is helping at the State Special Olympics track and field competition. Working with kids with special needs has taught her to better appreciate the joy of helping others through athletics.

When Emily is not helping in her community through her volunteering or church youth group, she runs track at Tahoma Senior High School and has lettered in cross country all four years. Emily is also a member of the Girl Scouts and was recently given the Silver Award for her volunteer work with the Special Olympics. She is looking forward to her senior year of high school and is hoping to take her team to the State championships again.

A hard-working student that achieved A’s and B’s since elementary school, Daniel Davis has always put his whole heart into whatever he put his mind to and never tolerated failure. He started playing football in 6th grade and excelled, never letting any injuries keep him down. Not even a torn ACL could stop him from playing his senior year. Despite going through reconstructive surgery and enduring intense physical therapy, Daniel worked hard and was able to play football when the season started again.

Dave Miller, Head Football Coach from Lakes High School adds that Daniel does “everything to the best of his ability, has a strong desire for excellence,” and his “attitude and work ethic are amazing.” Not only has Daniel shown great initiative, courage, and determination in sports like football, baseball and wrestling, he has also proven to be very academically disciplined. Never letting his grades suffer because of his extracurricular activities, Daniel was able to reach his goal of getting a 4.0 in his senior year.

Katy is actively involved in the basketball program at Eastlake High School, being awarded the honor of team captain her senior year. Beyond athletics, Katy has achieved a 4.0 grade point average, while taking primarily AP courses. Aly is a captain of her cross-country team. She does an excellent job in representing her school in athletic competitions by demonstrating team leadership and outstanding sportsmanship. Aly is also a member of Cascade High School’s women basketball team and track and field. She has received a total of 13 varsity letters.

Aly’s has a long list of extracurricular activities. She is enrolled in every Honors course, ASB Treasurer, sophomore class Secretary, Silver Key Scholatic Award winner for art, an Ap Scholar, “Relay for Life” team captain, and a counselor at her churches Vacation Bible School. Kevin is a dedicated athlete that participates in Shudokan Karate. He has demonstrated his excellence to the sport by achieving the rank of Nidan at the age of seventeen. Along with achieving this impressive rank, Kevin selflessly gives back to the community and his dojo by volunteering to assisting teachers, participating in judging competitions and teaches self-defense basics to organizations outside of the dojo. Kevin has volunteered over 400 hours in 2010 alone.

Kevin attended a summer program at American University in Washington DC and is now considering a degree in Law. He is currently in the process of applying for admission to Whitman, Gonzaga and Seattle University.

My name is Chris Davis and I am the founder and principal attorney of the Davis Law Group located in Seattle, Washington. I have been a practicing attorney for more than 17 years. I am writing to announce the commencement of the second annual Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete Program™ for the 2010-2011 school year. As you may already know, the purpose of the Program is to recognize outstanding senior high school athletes who have demonstrated excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

By way of background, I was very active in sports during my high school years. I was also recognized as a scholar-athlete while playing football and basketball throughout high school, and while also maintaining the highest grade point average among my teammates. My involvement in high school athletics was extremely important in helping to shape the person I am today, and I consider it extremely important that I was also able to maintain a strong GPA. Given my own experience, I wanted to recognize those student athletes who not only excel in sports but who also achieve academic excellence as well.

Here’s how the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete Program™ works. Starting this year, we will award a $100 scholarship each week to the male or female high school student athlete that demonstrates excellence both on the field and in the classroom. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or higher to be eligible and may be nominated by a teacher, coach, faculty member, parent or peer. A student-athlete in any 3A and 4A high school in King County is eligible to receive the Davis Law Groups Scholar Athlete Award™. The award recipient will be announced via a press release each Thursday of the school year while classes are in session. We will also be asking the local media to report on each award winner so there is a good chance the student and high school will be exposed to some good press coverage. At the end of the school year, Davis Law Group will host a banquet inviting all 36 weekly award winners (split evenly between boys and girls) and their families to recognize their accomplishment. More importantly, the banquet will serve to award one male and one female with the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete of the Year™ who is chosen from the weekly winners as the most outstanding student-athlete of the year. Each male and female winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a beautiful glass trophy or commemorative plaque.

We hope that you, the parents, the coaching staff, and other school personnel will take advantage of the program by submitting the nominations of worthy student athletes. It is our hope that the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete Award Program™ will help motivate all student athletes to achieve excellence in the classroom and not just on the field or court.

Scholar Athlete Banquet an Overwhelming Success

“This evening was simply exquisite.” That eloquent summary, provided by a parent of one scholar athlete, could not have been more accurate. The first annual Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete Banquet was a resounding success.

The Columbia Tower Club area venue for our 90 guests, with its spectacular views from above the Seattle Skyline on a beautiful May evening, was simply an unbeatable setting.

Alexis Court & Hunter Colegrove

Athletes and guests began arriving at 6 pm where they were welcomed to the banquet with hors d'oeuvres, and directed the red carpet for a picture with Q13 Fox News anchor Bill Wixey and principal attorney and founder of Davis Law Group, Chris Davis. Dinner was served at 7pm at which time each scholar athlete was recognized for their remarkable achievements, with speeches given by Davis and Wixey. The key note speaker for the evening was Kelly Jennings of the Seattle Seahawks, who shared stories of his high school and college successes and encouraged all of the athletes to “hold their heads high, and never give up on a dream.”

Shortly after dinner the Scholar Athlete of the Year awards were presented to Hunter Colegrove of Bonney Lake High School and Alexis Court of Liberty High School. Both have excelled greatly in the classroom as well as on the field of play, and more importantly are genuine young people with limitless futures.

The evening was concluded with pictures and autographs on the red carpet with Mr. Jennings who was a fantastic ambassador for the Seattle Seahawks and the NFL. It was truly a pleasure to have him join us.

It is our hope that this is the first of many successful years for the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete Program as we continue to build a foundation for inspiring elite performance amongst high school student athletes from around the Seattle area.

Scholar Athletes of the Year Bios

Hunter Colegrove

This three sport varsity athlete played Varsity Football, Basketball and Track and carried a 3.8 GPA while taking mostly AP classes throughout high school. He has served as captain of the Football and Track team and has received awards including 1st Team All League Special Teams (SPSL), Honorable Mention All League Linebacker, and Special Teams Player of the Year. He has also received The ‘Heart of the Panther’ award, a select coach’s award given to one player from each varsity team at Bonney Lake High School who epitomizes the school motto "strength of mind, excellence of character.”

Science and math are his favorite subjects and he excels at both. He is a member of National Honor Society and has organized and led a group of honor society students in Relay for Life at PLU the past two years. Furthermore, he is also on the Senior Cabinet as President of the group of students in charge of running the school store.

“Hunter is an amazing young man who exhibits poise, leadership, and maturity, through hard work, dedication, and commitment to be the best that he can be,” says Andrew Sage, Hunter’s science teacher and football coach. One reason Hunter works so hard may be because of his mother’s battle with cancer when he was a high school freshmen. “He realizes anything can happen at any given time,” says neighbor Peggy April, “He is a confident and hardworking student who sets high standards with big expectations for himself.” Hunter will be attending the University of Washington in the fall, which is a dream come true for him. He plans to study ophthalmology or some other form of medicine and in doing so will be the first in his family to graduate from college.

We are happy to award the first Scholar Athlete of the Year to Hunter Colegrove.

Alexis Court

This scholar athlete has consistently excelled in soccer, basketball and softball for her high school all while maintaining excellent grades. Her ability to balance her school work and athletics all while being the ASB president is truly remarkable. She has also served twice as 2010 class president and has been team captain for both soccer and fastpitch softball teams the last two years. She is the LINK Crew Vice President, Spirit Club Vice President, and is a member of such organizations as the ‘Be The Change Club,’ Yearbook, and Key Club. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for that last 4 years, and has volunteered for the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and as an Athletes For Kids Mentor.

She has received awards and acknowledgements including Liberty High School (LHS) Varsity Women’s Soccer Most Inspirational Award, LHS Varsity Fastpitch Coaches Award, All-KingCo Honorable Mention, LHS Singers Most Inspirational Award, Sue Schoeppach Leadership and Service Award, and was a Washington Scholars Award Nominee.

“Alexis is an all around remarkable student athlete and a well-rounded kind of person,” says her softball coach Jessica Johnson, who selected Alexis for the coach’s award last softball season, “because she truly demonstrates what it means to be an excellent athlete, teammate and student.” She has also been selected as the most inspirational player by her teammates 5 times.

Dana Greenberg, her Honors European Studies teacher and Liberty High School’s Dean of Students says, “She provides… leadership, enthusiasm and energy. Alexis is a student leader that everyone admires and wonders, ‘How does she do it all?’”

Today is the big day for the everyone at Davis Law Group. This evening we are hosting our first annual Scholar Athlete Banquet at the Columbia Tower Club which is located on the 75th floor of Seattle's tallest highrise. We will be joined by Kelly Jennings of the Seattle Seahawks and Bill Wixey of Q13 Fox as well as the 30 scholar athletes who have selected throughout the year.

Each of the scholar athletes are receiving a $100 scholarship and the two Scholar Athletes of the Year are also receiving a $1000 scholarship to the university of their choice.

The festivities begin at 6pm and will conclude before 10 pm.

“Victoria has always been a goal setting young lady, and works hard to meet those goals,” says her mother, Jody Speck, “While we were camping when she was in the 4th grade, she announced that she would ride her bike 25 miles while we were there. She made it to 24 miles, but was cut short to our early departure due to rain.”

Victoria (‘Tori’) loves volleyball, starting on her first team in 5th grade. She has helped her High School team make it to State the past 3 years, and to bring home an 8th place trophy this year. Victoria made All League First Team for volleyball all four years that she has been in high school. She was a team co-captain, voted 1B League MVP, and played in the All State game this year. Her love of the game helps her to mentor younger girls as she coaches at the Boys and Girls Club, and was also evident as she took a volley ball to Mexico and Honduras to play with the children she met on those missions trips.

Victoria has also played basketball all 4 years in High School, helping them to make it to State all 4 years. Her high academics have helped both her Volleyball and Basketball teams to be recognized as the WIAA/Les Schwab/Dairy Commission 1B League State Academic Champions for the past two years. This spring, Tori joined the track and Field team- throwing the javelin, running the 400 relay, and running the 800m and 1600m. Her love of sports will carry on into her career field of choice, Physical Therapy.

Jim Waller, Victoria’s Guidance Counselor, weighs in, “With an accumulative G.P.A. of 4.0, Victoria is taking the most demanding classes we offer, resisting any temptation of ‘senioritis’, in spite of a very full schedule comprised of student leadership, music, athletics and coaching for the Boy's and Girl's Club. As a three-sport participant, Victoria is a true ‘student of the game’, drawing information from the coaches, studying game film, observing teammates/opponents and putting in the extra time and effort...never being out-worked or out-hustled.”

“Tori is a wonderful young lady who maximized her natural talent on the basketball court because of her great attitude and understanding of the game,” continues North Sound Christian basketball coach, Bill Kelley, “Her intelligence enabled me to play her in a variety of positions while knowing that she would always be in the right place regardless of which offense or defense we were running. She was recognized for her contributions to the success of our league champion team by being named the recipient of the Coaches Award.”

Craig Plendl of Everett High School - 4/28/2010

Craig lettered in both his junior and senior year in Tennis. His senior year he played 1st team double. He and his tennis partner qualified for the Cross-Divisional double tournament and he helped to bring the Everett High School boys Varsity tennis team to their 16-0 victory this last fall. He has maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA over his high school years while taking a rigorous course load including such classes as AP English IV, Calculus, Physics, Chemistry and Oceanography. He has acquired 17.0 College-in-the-High School credits with the Everett Community College, so far. This year he was inducted into the National Honor Society, and is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. He is a National Merit Scholarship-Commended Student.

Craig recently received the Everett School District Scholar-Athlete Award for Fall 2009. He also received the Everett High School Boys Tennis Scholastic Award. Craig has a passion for tennis and plans on continuing tennis activities well beyond high school. Craig plans on a career in the aerospace/aeronautical industry. He hopes to receive a degree in aerospace/aeronautical engineering from the University of Washington.

“Craig is an outstanding citizen, scholar, and athlete,” says Everett High School tennis coach Tim Boyd, “He is eager to learn and works very hard at being the best he can, spending time outside of regular practice developing his skills. This is true for all aspects of his life- he is a very focused and determined individual who helped contribute to the team’s undefeated season this year. From a coach’s view, he is the type of person you can go to and depend on to give 100% plus every day. I feel very proud and fortunate to have been part of Craig's career at Everett High.”

Madison Browning of Lake Washington High School - 4/22/2010

Madison Browning is senior student athlete and overall inspirational person to others. She has exhibited the qualities of sportsmanship, leadership and academic commitment not often seen in today’s youth. Madison has participated in High School Basketball, Volleyball and Soccer. However, when she went to “row for a day” with the Sammamish Rowing Association she truly found her place. She joined the club as a novice rower during her junior year of High School, which provided her with the opportunity to meet and work with other women athletes from area schools. She quickly became friends but more importantly teammates with these young women from around the Eastside communities.

Madison was on the first novice crew to sweep the High School Regional Competition held in Vancouver Washington in May of 2009. In addition, her novice crew finished “first place” in every event they competed in during the 09’ season. The combination of excellent coaching, dedicated athletes and personal resolve were all major contributors to this achievement. Madison graciously accepts victory as well a defeat. She always has a radiant smile to share with those around her.
Madison has dedicated her “off time” to her studies. She maintains a 3.96 GPA with AP history, AP English, French and AP Math as her core studies. Madison belongs to “Loyalty” a school sponsored community involvement club. Loyalty reaches out to people in need in our community. She was voted to hold the position of Vice President of the Club. Madison has also had the idea to start a clothing drive to benefit homeless men. She went to her friends and enlisted them to help this cause and they delivered much need articles of clothing for men who needed a hand.

The examples of Madison’s commitment keep rolling in: When she recognized that even though she was doing well in math she could use more help, she went to her Junior High math teacher Ms. Myrie, who she greatly admired, and asked if she could put together a "group of students" for additional help. She organized a group of committed students who, for the last two years, have attended a Monday night session to increase their understanding of complex problems in their AP Math class. The result was the teacher has made some extra income and has gotten to "teach" students that are committed. Madison can take full credit for starting and leading this academic movement.

“Madison Browning is the type of athlete that is always thinking of the big picture and the success of her team instead of just herself,” says her rowing coach Devon Carroll, “She has such a mature level of comradery and competition; when I think of an athlete with good sportsmanship, Madison comes first in my mind. She embodies dedication and hard work which makes her such a great addition to any team. I look forward to watching her success through college and beyond.

Madison will be attending the University of San Diego in the fall. She has been recruited and accepted an athletic scholarship in rowing. Madison plans on pursuing undergraduate studies with an emphasis on pre-law.

Eric Patterson-Floyd of O'Dea High School - 4/15/2010

In addition to being an honor roll student most for most of his school life, Eric has always been a positive role model to others. He always strives to be best at whatever he does and usually succeeds and at the same time staying humble. He's always willing to help others achieve their goals whether academic, athletically or just in life.

Eric has been running track since he was 7 years old and hasn't skipped a beat. He is currently the fastest sprinter at O’Dea two years in a row and has served as team captain for the last two years. Their track club has been Metro Champions thirteen years straight and they expect another win this spring. Eric ranked 1st in USA Track & Field (USATF) in the Northwest Region in both 100M and 200M and ranked 29th in the Nation at the Jr. Olympics.

“He is an outstanding student, and more importantly he is a quality person,” says O’Dea Athletic Director and track coach, Monte Kohler, “I know him to be among the top young men of this year’s senior class. Very quietly Eric has established himself as a true leader among his peers. He has tremendous leadership qualities. He is extremely loyal and honest and is a great leader of young men.”

Eric has volunteered for several youth nonprofit organizations in his community. He is a member of the Young Men’s Leadership Group at his church and continues to exemplify the attitude needed to excel in today’s world. Eric takes extraordinary steps to exceed expectations. He volunteered at St. Paul Elementary and was great at building relationships with school leader’s and student. Eric was proactive and placed an uncompromising priority on understanding and helping define the needs set forth on the project given to him during his involvement at St. Paul. While working with the Urban Professional Women’s Association on the “Tree House Project,” he demonstrated a sense of urgency in meeting demands beyond the organizational boundaries.

Eric has always been a leader. He was Assist Rector for this year's spiritual encounter and Team leader last year. Eric has also served as Chairman of the school dance committee, represented O’Dea as a spokesperson on Catholic School recruiting visits, and helped host Open House this year. He signed his National Letter of Intent to Seattle University for Track and Field.

Alexis excels in 3 sports currently, she plays soccer, basketball, and softball for her high school all while maintaining excellent grades. When Alexis is not contributing her time to her school activities she is volunteering with Athletes for Kids, a program in which she mentors young athletes.

Academically, Alexis is just as talented and inspirational. Dana Greenberg, her Honors European Studies teacher and Liberty High School’s Dean of Students explains, “She brought an amazing array of talents to the course, including her leadership skills and her ability to facilitate meaningful discussions. Honors students rarely have the self confidence and chutzpah to ask clarifying questions in class, but Alexis was one of the few students I have ever encountered who constantly questioned and probed to better understand the concepts under study. She will never know how much her classmates appreciated her quest for comprehension. Alexis would never say that history was her favorite subject but I never realized that fact because she demonstrated such a zeal for every project assigned and every discussion we had. She provides… leadership, enthusiasm and energy. Alexis is a student leader that everyone admires and wonders, ‘How does she do it all?’”

John Luke Andrew of Enumclaw High School - 4/1/2010

Respect, passion and determination are three traits used to describe Luke’s character. Playing soccer is a highlight in Luke’s life and he appreciates it as an international sport. As a freshman, he participated in a soccer tournament in Sweden and Denmark with other players from around the world. There he had opportunities to interact with diverse cultures and admired the bilingual ability of many others; he came home determined to become fluent in Spanish and now is considering it as a minor in college.

Sports have always been important to Luke. Soccer has been a lifelong passion. Presently he plays for South County Football Club (SCFC) which is Premier Division 2. Though Luke historically has played an outside midfield position, this year he accepted the challenge of a defensive position when requested by his coach, Daryl Green. During this past soccer club season, SCFC won 1st in the U18 division. Luke also plays for Enumclaw High School Varsity Soccer where he is a respected player and leader on his team. After certifying as a soccer referee, he has worked each year as a referee for Cascade Soccer in Enumclaw. Luke has also enjoyed playing with the Enumclaw High varsity tennis team which he will continue as a lifelong sport.

Luke has challenged himself throughout high school, consistently choosing AP classes. His elective classes have included AP World History, College Spanish and Leadership. During his senior year, he has continued to take a full load of classes, exceeding his credit requirements. Luke is an officer in the National Honor Society since his sophomore year in high school. He maintains a 3.7 GPA overall, along with AP courses. College is in Luke’s future and he hopes to attend a smaller Christian University where he plans to study pre-dentistry.

Lisa Beem of Nathan Hale High School 4/1/2010

“Lisa Beem is a hard-working, genuinely caring, and enthusiastic athlete and scholar,” says her mother Lynne Hoskins, “She is intellectually curious, enjoys lively discussion, and loves learning.” Lisa has proven this sentiment by maintaining a 4.0 grade point while taking several AP and honors classes.

Lisa is a supportive and inspiring athletic leader, committing her time and energy to help create a nurturing and positive team atmosphere. She has been the co-captain of Cross Country in both her Junior and Senior years and was named "Most Inspirational" for Cross Country both those years as well. Her outstanding time of 20:20 on the Lower Woodland course has ranked her as 4th on the Nathan Hale High School All Time Top 20 List.

Lisa has been involved in the Seattle Summer Swim League since she was in 4th grade, and has been on the Nathan Hale Swim Team all 4 years. Her Medley Relay came in 4th place at Metro Finals and her 200 Free Relay came in 5th at Metros. She was named Scholar-Athlete for the 2010 Swimming Season. Lisa is also looking forward to getting in shape for her fourth Track season, where she races in the 2 mile, 1 mile and 800 meter. At the end of senior year, Lisa Beem will have 12 Varsity Letters with plans to compete in both running and swimming in college.

Lisa enjoys her position as the Inside Editor of the Nathan Hale newspaper, The Sentinel. She also participates as a leader in the Earth Corps Service Club and worked diligently to bring composting to Nathan Hale. Furthermore, Lisa is very active on the Pro-Justice Team of Global Visionaries.

“She was the only person I was able to interview last summer for the PJ team,” said Bryanna Boyd, one of the adult PJ facilitators, “Instantly I was able to gage her hard work ethic and passion around social justice.”

Chris Johnson of Mariner High School - 3/18/2010

Chris has excelled both in school and as an athlete. He is a 3-year letterman in football, performing as a varsity starter two of those years. This year as a senior, Chris was captain of the football team and was recognized as second team all Wesco offensive linemen. Additionally, he is a 1-year letterman in wrestling and a 3-year letter winner in track. His junior year he was the captain of the throwers and was a District 1 finalist in discus. This spring he will serve as a track team captain and has hope’s of qualifying for state. Chris was named the Outstanding Male Athlete in both 7th and 8th Grade at Explorer Middle School in Everett, WA. This year he was honored as a scholar athlete by the Snohomish County Football Officials Association which honors two athletes from the high schools in Snohomish County and south Whidbey Island each year.

On top of his performance as an athlete, Chris has dedicated himself to his education and his community. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. For the community, Chris has devoted a lot of his free time to working with children to get them interested in sports. He was a student coach for wrestling and track at Explorer Middle School and has coached Mukilteo Boys and Girls Club basketball for the last two years. He also served as a volunteer councilor for 5th graders from Fairmount Elementary in Everett, WA. Last year he was junior coach for Powder Puff Football at Mariner and this year he participated in Macho Volleyball.

He has been accepted to both Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR and Whitworth University in Spokane. He plans to participate in both football and track & field at one these two colleges. He is well liked by his peers and coaches and is always someone they can count on to be a leader.

John Ondriezek, head football coach for Mariner High School, sums up: “Chris is an outstanding young man; he is a dedicated, hard working individual who has gained the respect of students & staff at Mariner. He is a leader by example in the classroom and on the athletic field. Chris is a person of high moral character and a dependable and responsible student/athlete.”

Hannah Lilly of Mercer Island High School - 3/11/2010

Hannah is a 4 year varsity basketball player and a 3 year starter who has been selected to the all-league 1st team twice. She led her team in scoring, assists, and steals for two years. According to the Mercer Island coaching staff, Hannah is an amazing role model. She has dedicated herself to serving others through basketball - she teaches and coaches young players year-round to help them improve. Hannah has been the starting point guard for the Mercer Island girls’ basketball team for the three years she played high school basketball. She was sidelined her junior year with an ACL injury, but she never missed a practice or game to support her team. For an entire year all Hannah could do was to cheer for her teammates and she relished every opportunity. Sitting out her junior year was difficult for Hannah, but she kept a positive attitude and her senior year she has dominated. She was named to the First Team All-KingCo this year (and her sophomore year).

“Hannah is inspirational and determined,” says girls basketball coach Jamie Prescott, “With her leadership both on and off the court; Hannah has led our team to its best finish in school history - winning both the league title and league tournament title.”

Hannah is also involved in coaching a Mercer Island youth program and volunteers through several other organizations. She is a two-year Bridges Advisory Leader and she played volleyball her freshman and sophomore years. Hannah has accomplished her childhood goal of playing college basketball and will be playing for Emory University next fall.

"Hannah Lily is amazing,” says Principal John Harrison, “A near perfect GPA, a talented athlete and wonderful ambassador for youth in general and MIHS in particular. Hannah's talents are obvious but are surpassed by her warmth, empathy and intuitive understanding that by working with others you can accomplish so much more. Hannah leads by example and her presence brightens the room. Emory University is fortunate to have her."

Hannah’s English teacher, Melissa Aaron continues, “Hannah Lilly shows remarkable dedication in all that I've seen her do. She shows an incredible steadiness of character while approaching her life with enthusiasm and skill.”

Assistant coach Beth Christofferson sums up: “Simply put Hannah has the heart of a champion. Hannah's unwavering commitment to her team, determination, and passion for the game will continue to help her achieve any goal she sets both on and off the court.”

Reid Walker of Garfield High School - 3/4/2010

As co-captain of the Garfield boy’s swim & dive team, Reid dedicated himself to upholding the traditions that make participating in the sport so popular at Garfield High School. “Through his leadership, the team once again welcomed one-and-all to its folds, exuding a contagious spirit of unity, enthusiasm, and fun.” Says Karin Fosberg, Garfield’s head swim coach. Additionally, Reid’s athleticism helped lead the team to an undefeated dual meet season, a 2nd place team finish at Districts and a 6th place team finish at State. Individually, Reid went on to compete at the high school 4A state meet, winning the 500 yard freestyle event in a nationally All-American qualifying time and placing 3rd in the 200 yard freestyle event.

Academically, Reid is as focused in the classroom as he is in the pool and has maintained a 3.83 GPA. He plans to continue his studies and swimming at the University of California, Davis next year. Corinne has demonstrated her expertise in multiple sports arenas for Mountlake Terrace High School, playing varsity soccer the last 3 years, varsity basketball the last 4 years and varsity tennis last year. She has also participated in club sports outside her high school, performing for FC Shoreline Soccer and various Select AAU Basketball teams. She also served as ASB Secretary her junior year and is currently the ASB President as a senior at MTHS. She is an Honor Society member, a two year MTHS Link Crew member, and serves as Key Club Secretary.

Corinne has demonstrated strong leadership skills both on and off the court & field throughout her school years and most notably in High School. She is passionate about her school community and strives for excellence in all she endeavors. Whether it's on the court/field or planning and delivering the “best Homecoming Assembly in my 27 years here as a teacher,” as described by Mountlake Terrace English teacher, Mr. Peter Breysse, she strives to deliver with quality. She works hard to engage the diverse student population to get them involved with school activities, crossing stereotypical boundaries. She is a strong and confident young woman and uses this confidence to positively influence her community. She has pursued a rigorous curriculum during high school by taking AP and Honors courses each year in preparation for her secondary education. She is academically ranked #1 in her class.

Warren Sadler of Wilson High School - 2/18/2010

Warren has now lettered in 3 varsity sports while maintaining a GPA over 3.9 and taking mostly Honors or AP level classes. This year he was on the Knowledge Bowl Team and has now received three 4.0 semesters in a row. Also this year, Warren was elected to Senior Class Representative and is very involved in the Wilson High School ASB. He continues to do community service, including tutoring other students through his involvement in the National Honor Society. He is also involved in community service and youth activities at his church in Tacoma. "Warren is a very polite and nice young man with a big heart, a great sense of humor and he truly possesses great leadership ability," Says his father, Bruce Sadler, "He has great potential for the future."

As an athlete, Warren has excelled on the field as a pitcher and outfielder for the Wilson High School baseball team, and he looks forward to playing both positions as a varsity athlete this spring. This last fall was also Warren's first year trying Cross Country. He needed a time of 20 minutes to get a letter. He worked so hard all year and finally on the last race of the year he got a 19:56. The Cross Country coach, Mr. Ring, praised Warren for his performance and leadership to the team.

Bruce Sadler concludes, "As a high school teacher myself, I am truly amazed by my son. He sets his goals high and achieves most of them through hard work, effort and team work. If you were to meet Warren, I am sure your first impression would be a wonderful lasting one."

Molly Boyd of Nathan Hale High School - 2/10/2010

Molly Boyd has been athletic throughout her life and decided as a young girl that she wanted to play at a high level of soccer. She was a freshman varsity starter at Nathan Hale HS, leading the team with the most goals and earning a Metro League 1st team position. In her junior year she was named captain and also recognized as the player of the year for the Metro League. Unfortunately, Molly had the unfortunate set back of an ACL tear during the state cup game in April of 2009. But during her rehab she made up for it by staying active with the team and also coaching a U7 boys Lake City Team as her senior project for Nathan Hale. “It is often in negative moments we find the most positive attributes in ourselves. Stricken by an ACL tear in the heart of her college recruitment and further delayed by complications related to the injury, a side of Molly burst out that sets her aside from simply a player who can walk on to the highest level of youth soccer the state has to offer.” Says UW Women’s Soccer Assistant Coach, Jim Thomas.

She has recently fully recovered from the knee injury and has just committed to the University of Washington for her academic and athletic dream. “She fits our prototype of a student-athlete to a tee: motivated and outstanding student, talented and hardworking athlete, and finally, a young woman of high integrity and character.” Says Lesle Gallimore, Head Coach for UW Women’s Soccer.

Jim Thomas concludes, “The internal fortitude, creativity and unwillingness to falter pushed her through the rigorous rehabilitation in stellar fashion. However the love for her team, the passion for her future in the game and her openness to the entire process of being an elite athlete had her helping others everyday at practice even though she was unable to compete. A continued confident, voice of reason and encouragement Molly’s exceptional talent was the unlikely victim of a bigger and stronger heart.”

Sarah has been a first team All-Conference basketball player for the past two seasons, leading the KingCo 3A conference in scoring both years. She has also finished in the top 2 in rebounding each of the past two seasons and she recently set the all time career scoring record for basketball at Interlake, surpassing both the girls and former boy’s records. “She is a captain, a leader, and a wonderful asset to our school and basketball program,” says basketball coach Scott Marcum, “She continues to work hard on the court and in the classroom. I have never coached a player who has come further in four years of high school. She will be truly missed next year.”

Nick has been a hard worker and done exemplary work at just about everything he tries. He was recently named by the National Football Foundation, Seattle Chapter, as the 2009 Lineman Scholar Athlete of the Year. He was also named 1st team all-league for offense and defense this year for Seamount League football. Nicholas is a natural leader. As football team captain he utilized these skills and was inspirational to his team. So much so that they voted him "Most Inspirational" and "Lineman of the Year" awards at a recent banquet. He gets excellent grades, and scored 34 out of 36 on the ACT, getting a perfect 36 on the Science portion. He will study chemistry or physics at BYU next fall, and will make a great contribution to society with his knowledge, leadership skills, and all around likability.

He is an Eagle Scout and has served in many ways the community around him. He is a natural performer, so he dove-tailed this talent with his Eagle Scout Project by holding a benefit concert, called "Coats For Kids". He recruited local talent to come perform, and he performed by singing and playing guitar solo and in a band as well. The concert was held in the high school auditorium.The price for admission to the concert was a new or gently used coat or jacket. He was able to donate about 150 coats to Mamma's Hands, a shelter for women and children in North Bend. WA.

James Kashima of Mercer Island High School - 1/21/2010

In wrestling, James has earned his varsity letter all four years. Even as a freshman he was an enthusiastic member of the wrestling team who recruited three new teammates. This year, as a senior, he is so far 12-2 at the 130 lb. weight class with 7 wins by pin. More importantly, he is undefeated so far in KingCo Crown Division matches, helping his team to an undefeated first half of the season at 5-0. James' focus on academic excellence contributed to a team academic state championship in 2008, and in 2009 James was an individual academic state champion recognized by the Washington Wrestling Coaches Association.

James is also a soccer player and a member of the cross country team. When he finishes high school, he will have earned 11 varsity letters in his three sports. His cross country coach, Erica Hill, says, "James is the pivotal #5 (out of 5) runner on our team. The top five runners score, so his position is a very stressful one. But James always rises to the occasion; he shows integrity; and he leads by example. It is awesome to have an athlete and a leader like him on the team." With James' contributions, the cross country team went to State the past two years, placing 5th and 14th respectively. His soccer coach, Steve Newman, says, "James has been a great addition to our team for 3 years now. Has helped Mercer Island win the KingCo Championship the last two years and place 2nd in State two out of the last three years. He has great endurance and has come up big with assists or goals when we needed someone to step up. A valuable teammate!"

He is also an accomplished oboist in the school band, having four times been selected as an All State Soloist. He is taking six courses currently, and in the past year has taken eight honors or AP courses, all while maintaining his high GPA. For this and for the fact that all of his teachers compliment his talents and his character, the Lion's Club awarded him the Outstanding Junior Student of the year for 2009.

January 14th, 2010 - Kelly’s values exemplify the commitment of elite athletes, and the same dedication drives her in all areas of her life. Her dedication in academics is seen in her 4.0 GPA while taking college courses through Running Start. When she graduates she will receive a high school diploma and her Associate in Arts degree. Kelly’s first year at the University of Washington will have her enrolling as a junior. Academic rigor outside the class room is seen in the organizations with which she is affiliated. She has been a member and officer of the Math team and Honor’s Society for three years each respectively. For the math team, she has gone to state each year.

Her dedication to her community is seen in her involvement in church and school sports. At church, she is the leader of the communication committee. She oversees the communication between different organizations in the church to insure her church’s mission is conducted effectively and smoothly. A cheerleader for two years, Kelly was co-captain her second year.

Kelly dedication to excellence is evident in all areas of her life. Since her freshman year, Kelly has played for Washington High School’s girls’ tennis team. She will be a four year varsity player at the conclusion of this season. Kelly made it to state her sophomore year and again last year as a Junior. “At state, I watched her physically give it her all for every match that she played,” Says Washington High School Tennis Coach Michele Coumbs, “Kelly is not a quitter. When she plays a match, she plays until there is nothing left in her to give. She is able to mentally push herself to levels other player’s dream about. As her coach, I look forward to another year at state. I know Kelly will go again because she won’t accept anything less from herself.”

With a 3.8 cumulative GPA and a long history of outstanding performance as a competitive athlete and leader, Hunter is a remarkable example of scholastic & academic dedication and the Davis Law Group is proud to award him a $100 scholarship and recognize him as the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete of the Week™.

Hunter is a three sport varsity athlete playing Varsity Football, Varsity Basketball and Varsity Track for Bonney Lake High School. He was captain of the Football team this year and captain of the Track team his junior year. At a recent football banquet last month, Hunter received a series of awards including 1st Team All League Special Teams (SPSL), Honorable Mention All League Linebacker, Special Teams Player of the Year and the Coaches Award. For his dedication last year to the varsity basketball program, Hunter won the ‘Heart of the Panther’ award, a select coach’s award given to one player from each varsity team at BLHS who epitomizes the school motto "strength of mind, excellence of character". In Track, he was a member of the 4x4 relay team that made it to state.

Hunter works a part time job and carries one of the heaviest academic workloads of any high school student, taking no less than three Advanced Placement classes each semester. Science and math are his favorite subjects and he excels at both. He is a member of National Honor Society and has organized and led a group of honor society students in Relay For Life at PLU the past two years. Furthermore, Hunter is also on the Senior Cabinet as President of the group of students in charge of running the school store.

“Hunter is an amazing young man who exhibits poise, leadership, and maturity, through hard work, dedication, and commitment to be the best that he can be,” says Andrew Sage, Hunter’s science teacher and football coach. One reason Hunter works so hard may be because of his mother’s battle with cancer when he was a high school freshmen. “He realizes anything can happy at any given time,” says neighbor Peggy April, “He is a confident and hardworking student who sets high standards with big expectations for himself.” He has already been accepted by early admissions to the University of Washington, which is a dream come true for him. He plans to study ophthalmology or some other form of medicine and in doing so will be the first in his family to graduate from college.

The following is a forward from West Seattle High School Girls Soccer Coach, Kevin Fieser:

“Lisa is the type of player every coach dreams of having involved on his or hers team and the type of a player every team must have to be successful. She is one of the biggest reasons that the West Seattle HS girl's soccer program won a share of the division title two seasons ago and an outright division title this past season. She has the best attitude of any girl I have ever coached and sacrificed her personal stats and accolades for the betterment of the team.

Lisa has scored three goals and has recorded three assists in the last past to seasons combined. However, these stats do not reflect the type of impact Lisa had on the team. There are two specific instances that illustrate this impact. The first instance occurred during tryouts this past season.

Heading into this season, the team had graduated 12 seniors and 7 starters from last year's team. Lisa was one of only 6 returning letterman and one of 4 starters. She was also one of only 4 seniors. I was nervous about all the vocal and emotional leadership we had lost. However, during tryouts Lisa stepped up and filled that void. She was the only player that was talking on the field, calling for the ball and directing her teammates on what to do and where to go with the ball. She really stepped up and let me focus on coaching rather than worrying about filling the leadership void. The second instance demonstrates her willingness to sacrifice personal stats for the success of the team.

Our main goal this year as a team was to win division outright for the first time in over a decade. We had won a share of the division title the year before, but we were not satisfied with sharing the title. By the end of the year, it came down to us defeating Nathan Hale, our rival, to force a one game playoff for the division title. Hale had defeated us 5 to 1 earlier in the year. Going into the game, we were planning on using a different line up to try and match up better against Hale. We got two early goals and things were looking good, but unfortunately Hale scored the next goals and were taking control of the game. I pulled Lisa and asked her if she would be willing to move back to defense and she did not hesitate in saying she would do whatever it took to win that game. She went back in at defense, and dominated the game in the back. We did not concede another goal, and she absolutely shut down Hale's best player. It was the best game I have ever seen her play and it c ame when we needed it the most. I can say without a doubt, we would not have won that game without Lisa's willingness to do whatever it took to win.

Lisa has an impact off the field as well. She helped paint the school parking lot in order to promote school spirit. She attended football games and led the students in cheering for the team. She reached out to the freshman and sophomores on the team and made sure they were doing well in school and would help tutor them if needed. She urged them to get involved in other sports or activities throughout the school. In addition to all that she is a tremendous gymnast. She has gotten three or four girls from the soccer team to join gymnastics this year, and it was not easy to convince them to stay with it, considering they were going to do early morning practices for gymnastics this year.

I have never been prouder of saying I coached a player, than I am of Lisa. She is such a genuine and selfless person and does so much for others, it is an inspiration. She is a tremendous student, as evidenced by her 4.0 GPA, and a tremendous leader. I have coached a bunch of high schoolers over the past few years, and I do not know of another that fits the term scholar athlete better than Lisa. She is a player that we will miss dearly next season, and one that I will always remember having the opportunity to coach. You could not choose a better representative of scholar athlete than Lisa Broadstone.”

Jack is playing soccer at the highest competitive level for youth his age in the entire country, the US Soccer Federation Development Academy. There are roughly 64 teams throughout the country and Jack's team, Crossfire Academy, is required to travel throughout the U.S. for games, tournaments and college showcases. Jack is one of the captains on his team and was recently selected as Defender of the Week for the entire country.

Despite nightly training and weekend travel, Jack is able to maintain an A average in all honors classes at O'Dea high school. Jack has accepted a scholarship to play soccer at Stanford University starting in the 2010 season. He is active in his community performing community service for his Church and local non-profits, as well as making a little extra money caring for children of close friends in the summer and non-travel weekends.

“He is a leader, a loyal friend, an amazing son and an accomplished athlete and student,” says his father, John Ryan, “those who knew him when he was young will tell you that they are not surprised at all that he is headed for Stanford on a soccer scholarship.” Harvard, Notre Dame, Duke, Princeton and U.W. are just a few of the major academic institutions who courted him for his athletic and academic ability. His father sums up, “He is very humble and does not seek accolades. He has earned this recognition.”

Betsy is a four year letter winner and starter for Newport High Schools varsity girls basketball team. She has been awarded 1st Team All-KingCo Honors her freshman, sophomore and junior years. She has led the league in scoring the past two seasons, as well as leading our team in rebounding, steals and blocked shots. She will likely finish her career at Newport with 1500 plus points, 500 plus rebounds and 150 plus steals.

“Betsy Kingma will finish her career as one of, if not, the best basketball players in Newport Girls Basketball history,” says Newport Girls Basketball Coach Travis Whitaker. Newport Athletic Director James Gill adds more, “Betsy has made a tremendous impact on the Newport Girls Basketball Program, leading us to the State Tournament for the first time in 20 years. She is a tremendous player, teammate and student and would be a very proud recipient of your award.”

Beyond the court, Betsy has been an excellent student, holding honors status over her high school career while maintaining a 3.8 GPA. Betsy shows incredible leadership as a player and as a person. She has a very bright future ahead of her, having just signed a scholarship offer to continue her basketball and academic career at Seattle Pacific University starting in the fall of 2010. Newport English Teacher, Christopher Drajem elaborates, “Betsy is a scholar beyond compare here at NHS. Her intellectual curiosity and insight point to a keen interest in many topics and issues, and she approaches her school work with gusto. Kenny dedicates himself whole-heartedly no matter what organization he’s dealing with. “As a coach, I have known Kenny for four years,” says Cross Country couch and Auburn Riverside teacher Bill Sumner, “and based on feedback from his teachers, I believe that he transfers his dedication for running into the classroom.” Kenny consistently challenges himself by enrolling in honors and AP classes. During the past four years Kenny has maintained an exceptional GPA, been a member of the Honor Society and each year been awarded SPSL Scholar Athlete and WIAA Outstanding Academic Award for 4.0. Furthermore, Kenny has involved himself in various leadership groups like the Auburn Riverside Raven Crew, Student Body Leadership, and Boy Scouts.

“Kenny’s leadership, charisma, and work ethic emerges the most when he is presented with a challenge,” Continues Coach Sumner, “Kenny has always pushed himself as a distance runner in track and cross country.” Last year his fellow athletes uniformly nominated him as the captain of the 2009 cross country team. He has done a superb job of leading the cross country team to a fantastic start for 2009, and he has done so on the strength of his example and tremendous leadership. Competing as a state competitor in Cross Country for the last 3 years, Kenny emerged as the South Puget Sound League (SPSL) Champion for 2009. For Track and Field, Kenny has been a state competitor for the last 2 years and is looking forward to another successful season come spring 2010. At last year’s state competition, he had the 2^nd fastest time for the 1600 meter with an astonishing 4 min 12 sec. Kenny lives his position of Team leader by inspiring the rest of his team to work hard. During the off-seasons, he trains rigorously, and he motivates others to do the same regardless of the weather or time of day. He does not shrink from a challenge.

Coach Sumner sums it up: “The personal conversations that I’ve had with Kenny have convinced me that he is a young man with a passion for excellence and creativity. Although all students bring unique talents and perspectives to the classroom and the athletic field, I believe that Kenny possesses an unusual focus and determination.”

In addition to getting things done in the classroom, Kyra has been part of the Girls soccer program at Sammamish for 4 years playing Goalkeeper. She started on the JV team her freshman year and then made the jump to the Varsity team the following year. “She has made great strides in her play over the past 3 seasons,” says Athletic Director Pat McCarthy. This is evidenced by the fact that this year she was recognized by the league as the top Goalkeeper. McCarthy continues, “Her play, attitude and overall personality is recognized by many. She is very well liked and respected by her teammates.”

With the season recently finished, Kyra has come out with 5 shutouts in 17 games. Performing as a leader on the field, she is respected and admired for her determination. Girls Soccer Coach Karsten Hoffmen explains, “She is a great kid to coach always smiling and willing to help and take input. She’s very well liked by the team and admired for how well she plays. She is just one of those kids you love to coach, she works hard, she's vocal, a great person who is very mature and myself and the rest of the coaching staff love her just as an all around great person.”

Ian is a very hard working and conscientious student as demonstrated by his outstanding 3.99 grade point average. His teachers often comment that Ian is a problem-solver, has the ability to think critically and is able to work cooperatively with others.

Ian not only excels in the classroom but is also a leader in the community and at Kentridge High School. He has volunteered his time by being active in many school and community related clubs and activities. Ian serves in a leadership capacity in many ways at Kentridge. According to Principle Mike Albrecht, “Ian consistently articulates his opinion and gives input in an appropriate manner on issues involving student academic achievement.”

In addition to his commitment to Kentridge High School, Ian works hard to make his community a better place. He has volunteered his time to work with basketball and football camps, and has also volunteered at his church by participating in their youth groups and drives to help the local food bank.

“He’s one of those kids you see in the hallway and always makes your day.” Principle Albrecht continues, “He’s always saying ‘hi,’ he’s always got a positive attitude, always looking for ways to make Kentridge a better place.”

Ian is also an exceptional athlete and leader. A rarity with today’s high school athletic, Ian has been a three-sport participant playing in football, basketball and baseball since he came in as a freshman. He is a leader with all three teams. His coaches often comment on Ian’s ability to lead by example as well as communicate positively to his teammates. Ian is very dedicated to the Kentridge athletic program and is seen as a leader among their athletes. He is also an accomplished musician, playing the saxophone for the Kentridge band. As if that was not enough, Ian played a lead in the Kentridge drama production of Disney’s “High School Musical.” It is rare to see a “star athlete” take the risk to act, sing and dance in front of his peers and sold out audiences.

Principle Albrecht summarizes, “Ian has a tremendous work ethic, is committed to excellence and is extremely dedicated in all that he chooses to tackle. He is known by his peers as being an enthusiastic leader who is willing to listen to people’s concerns and determine a course of action that will meet their needs. Ian takes initiative when needed and is very creative in solving problems. He is a wonderful student leader.”

Kristin boasts a remarkable record of accomplishments during her time at Holy Names Academy. She has won individual Metro, District, and State 3A Golf Titles in the past three years and also led the Holy Names Cougars the Metro, District, State and [State] Academic Team 2008-2009 Championships last year. Kristin was recently featured in the Seattle Times for her outstanding high school athletic performances and dedication to hard work and practice.

“When she was a freshmen she was still a very good golfer and played in the number 1 spot on our team even then, but her improvement has been tremendous over the last 3 years,” explained Holy Names Academy Golf Coach Mary Pless. After winning the State Championship title as a sophomore, Kristin Kristin has set her sights on clenching yet another title this year.

Kristin is the captain of the Cougar golf team and fulfills her role as a leader both on the golf course and in the classroom. “Kristin shares her passion of golf with everyone around her and is a delightful young woman,” says Holy Names Athletic Director Jana Kohler. Kristin is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers on a weekly basis for El Centrol Delaraza, a center for Latino families, where she assists Spanish speaking people. She is also a Mentor of the “First Tee” program at Jefferson Park Golf Course where she teaches golfing skills to youngsters and was recently appointed to their junior advisory board.

With a 3.76 cumulative GPA and a long history of outstanding performance as a competitive athlete, Michael is a remarkable example of scholastic & academic dedication and the Davis Law Group is proud to award him a $100 scholarship and recognize him as the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete of the Week™.

Michael is well recognized as one of the best soccer players in Washington State. As co-captain of the Shorecrest High School varsity soccer team, he led them to a 3A Boys Soccer State Championship victory last spring. “He’s a good leader and he’s so smart. He knows soccer,” says Shorecrest boys soccer coach Drew Thompson, “He leads by example, leads with his brain. He has all the tools to be a successful athlete.” These tools were vividly demonstrated in a semi-final match last spring when Shorecrest was tied-up with the #1 ranked Mercer Island. Michael hit a beautiful free kick from 30 yards out to bring the Scots to a 2-1 lead and ultimately a win. Coach Thompson continues, “He’s humble about his skill level. He’s not one of these guys who thinks he’s the best and is going to let everybody know about it. He lets everyone know by the way he plays.”

MFor all his skills on the field, Michael has been recognized as the 2009 Gatorade Washington State Player of the Year in addition to being voted by the Washington Prep sports writers as the 3A State player of the year. Furthermore, Michael was featured on the Seattle Times all-area Star Times team and chosen as 1^st team all-conference for WesCo league. Michael and his team had the dream season. He won just about every individual award possible and three trophies for his school. The Shorecrest Scots won the Wesco conference championship, District 1 championship and State championship. In light of these accomplishments, it's no surprise to find that Michael has made a verbal commitment to attend an outstanding school like the University of Washington to play Division 1 soccer, which has been a dream of his for some time.

Michael is also “very consistent in the classroom,” says Consumer Economics teacher Linda Cobb, who was thrilled to share her experience having Michael as a student and even a role model for her 11 year-old son. As a sophomore Michael played on the Shorecrest football team, and in one particular game that season Linda’s son was acting as ball boy on the sidelines during a pretty bad loss. In spite of losing the game, Michael made it a point to personally congratulate and thank all of the 9-year-old ball boys who’d been helping out. “It’s that kind of character that speaks more about Michael than anything else,” Linda explains, “Taking the time and the courtesy made a huge impact. It went such a long way.”

October 15^th, 2009 – Seattle, WA – The Davis Law Group would like to congratulate Kellie Shreve of Eastlake High School for her outstanding commitment to academics and athletics by recognizing her as the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete of the Week™. With a 4.0 cumulative GPA for the last 5 years and a long history of outstanding performance as a competitive soccer player, Kellie is a remarkable example of scholastic & academic dedication and the Davis Law Group is proud to award her a $100 scholarship and recognize her as the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete of the Week™.

Kellie has been playing soccer since the age of 4 and has had a dream of playing collegiate soccer from a very early age. She has also been active in track and other sports, but her primary focus has been soccer. This year will be her 4th and final year playing center-back for the Eastlake Wolves, ranked 4^th in Washington State.

“She has the awesome responsibility of having to clean up disasters when they occur. You need a mature player that won’t panic, a mature player who knows how to relate to the rest of the girls on the team,” Says Soccer Coach Chuck Krieble. Last year she was named on the 4A KingCo All Conference Team as a Defensive Honorable Mention. When not playing High School Soccer she plays club soccer year-round for Crossfire Premier coached by Steve Crum, “She is definitely a big part of the team, one of the leaders and anchors of the back line.” Crossfire Premier competes in Washington State’s Premier League - U18 Division 1 in the winter and spring.

Kellie is also highly focused on her academic studies. She plans to continue maintaining the 4.0 GPA she has achieved over the course of 5 years. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Mu Alpha Theta—National Math Honor’s Society. Last year she was Eastlake’s Honor Society Junior Class Representative. In 2008 and 2009 she was nominated by EHS teachers to represent Eastlake at the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine and the Congressional Youth Leadership Council. In 2008 she was named Eastlake High School’s Wolf-Student of the Month in January and Athlete of the month in October. She remains active in school clubs at Eastlake HS and has donated countless hours to various charities, as well as donating her time at Mary Queen of Peace’s clubs and projects. She loves working with children in the soccer community and works as a soccer coach at the Crossfire Academy and Soccer Camps.

Kellie is planning on pursuing a career in physical sciences or math, and possibly a post-grad health related degree. Her dreams of playing soccer at the highest level are becoming a reality, making official visits to several colleges on the East and West Coast over the past few months. She hopes to finalize her decision on which college is the best for her within the next few weeks.

Performing as a varsity long-distance runner in cross-country and track since he started at Bothell High School, Kevin has worked hard in the classroom to maintain his 3.92 cumulative GPA. A humble leader, Kevin encourages and supports both his teammates and his classmates. Kevin is a true example of scholastic & academic dedication and the Davis Law Group is proud to award him a $100 scholarship and recognize him as the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete of the Week™.

Kevin is one of the best runners at Bothell High School and serves as the captain for both the Cross-Country and the Track team, leading through his actions and mentoring younger teammates. His running coach Cathy Boyce elaborates, “What’s really nice about working with him is that he never loses site of the fact that his team is the number one priority. He is the kid who is out there supporting [and] being positive with everyone.” Coach Boyce continues, “It doesn’t matter

who he’s dealing with, he treats everyone the same: boys, girls, varsity, JV… He very much encompasses the entire teammate experience.”

Kevin is a phenomenal athlete and a strong distance runner. With a time of 9:38, he’s the 5^th fastest boy & 4^th fastest junior in the history of Bothell Track and Field for 3200 meters. Competitively, he was a Top 10 returner for both the 1600 and 3200 meter races in 4A Track and Field last spring. During fall Cross-Country, he was a Top 20 finisher in the

KingCo and District Meets, and competed at the state level as a sophomore and junior. Coach Boyce explains, “Distance running is not a glory sport. Kids don’t do it for the attention, they do it because they’re hard-working kids who want to push limits and see what they’re capable of, and that’s Kevin to a ‘T.’”

In the classroom, Kevin is “very engaging and encouraging. He participates, he’s excited,” says his art teacher, Cindra Avery, “He’s the perfect student and a delightful human being.” In addition to taking mostly AP/Honors classes and still maintaining his 3.92 GPA, Kevin is also a very talented artist actively enrolled in the advanced art classes at Bothell. According to his art teacher he has a wide range of artistic capabilities, pulling marvelous themes from his imagination and also drawing from real life. She even mentioned his noteworthy ability to incite collaboration amongst classmates when given group projects.

he role of motivator, team captain and even assistant coach giving tips and working with teammates on their technique. Coach West continues, “She’s in that top 2% for what coaches look for. It’s a rare combination; She’s able to have the high energy and high amp to get everybody’s blood moving, and then to do it positively.”

According to both coaches and administrators, Andrea not only focuses on her own personal success, but demonstrates time and time again her devotion to Ingraham high school and her fellow teammates. Having recently moved about 40 miles away to Tacoma, she chos

e to make the commute and stay enrolled at the high school. As Softball Coach Carrie Fischer puts it, “She could have transferred to any school she wanted to play softball, [but] she valued the experience of high school, friendship and comradery more then just strictly being single minded and going with softball.” Her loyalty and commitment to her teammates was also exemplified a year after being selected Second Team All League as a freshmen at Ingraham. With indications she was going to be acknowledged again as a sophomore, she requested the award go to somebody else.

September 24, 2009 – Seattle, WA – The Davis Law Group, P.S. congratulates high school senior Kris Otterholt for his exceptional performance in academics and athletics by

recognizing him as the Davis Law Group Scholar Athlete of the Week™. Kris has maintained an incredible GPA of 3.867 while consistently performing as one of the top athletes at Juanita High School. Kris started and lettered for the last three years in football, basketball and baseball. According to Juanita High School Athletic Director Tim Crowder, Kris stands out on the field year round, playing wide receiver and safety on the football team, starting guard on the basketball team, and centerfielder on the baseball team.

When asked to describe Kris, current and former teachers say that he is respectful, detail-oriented, and a skillful writer and is always willing to help others in need. In the local community he has spent a great deal of time helping feed the less fortunate, volunteering for the Matt Talbot Center for the Homeless as well as working with future Rebels at Juanita’s baseball camp. Kris is planning to pursue a career in either math or business. His dream is to have the opportunity to play either football or baseball for an Ivy League college.

“He’s a leader by his actions, and the other players look up to him,” football coach Shaun Tarantola says. “He takes care of business and is very coachable; the kind of guy you only have to tell something to once. He’s really fun to coach. Has very few mental mistakes.”

In only three games so far this year he has caught 9 passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns. He also leads the team in interceptions with two. He clinched a 24-17 win vs. Inglemoor last week, a team the Juanita Rebels haven’t beaten in 11 years, with an interception in the end zone with less than one minute left to play. Kris Otterholt responds, “I’ll do whatever helps the team most, whatever it takes; I just want to play football.”
